How to get there
To reach Arco Castle, you’ll need to park your car in one of the many parking areas located near the historic center of the town.
All parking lots are paid (except on Sundays). Here we share the one where we parked. If you don’t find a spot there, we also suggest a second option at this link.
Both are close to the old town—perfect not only for visiting the castle but also for exploring the historic center of Arco.
General Information & Curiosities
Arco Castle stands on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Alto Garda plain, offering a position that is both scenic and strategic.
Walking among its ruins, you can still admire the surviving towers, sections of the defensive walls, and remains of buildings that tell a story of sieges and battles.
The castle has inspired artists throughout the centuries. Its unmistakable silhouette appears in numerous manuscripts and paintings, including the famous watercolor by Albrecht Dürer from 1495, now preserved at the Louvre in Paris.
The path
Arco Castle can be reached via a pleasant 20-minute walk starting right from the town’s historic center, just a few kilometers from Lake Garda.
The trail is very scenic, winding through olive groves and offering panoramic views that will often make you pause for a quick photo before continuing.
Most of the path is uphill, with the final stretch being particularly steep.
The trail is accessible to everyone, but we do not recommend taking it with strollers.
What to do?
The trail leading to Arco Castle is scenic and truly enjoyable.
We recommend stopping along the way for a few photos. Once you reach your destination, take a break beneath the castle and enjoy the view of the valley. There is also a café here where you can recharge before continuing your visit.
We didn’t have time to visit Arco Castle ourselves. Entry is paid, and tickets can be purchased on site.
Rates: full ticket around €5, reduced €3.50; free for children under 12, residents, and people with disabilities.
Finally, after visiting the castle, we recommend taking a stroll through the historic center of Arco.
When to go? ☀️
The trail is always accessible, while the castle can be visited year-round. However, note that opening hours and days may vary depending on the season.
If you’re also planning to visit the castle, we recommend checking the official website beforehand.
Here’s our suggested itinerary to make the most of your time:
16:00 – Walk to Arco Castle: in summer, this is the perfect time to avoid the heat along the trail.
16:30 – Visit Arco Castle: once at the top, you can choose to enjoy the viewpoint in the large, free-access meadow or visit the castle’s interior.
18:00 – Return and stroll through the historic center: after the break at the castle, head back to town. A walk through the streets of Arco’s historic center is a must, exploring squares, artisan shops, and charming corners.

20:00 – Dinner: end the day on a high note with a delicious dinner. There are plenty of restaurants in the historic center, but we recommend trying the pizza at Da Carletto Pizza e Cucina. Here’s more about their pizza.
